Last spring, on Ravelry’s, Irish Knitters discussion forum, gave birth to the idea of a weekend getaway. What started as a simple discussion on “let’s go away for the weekend and just have fun knitting together…” Soon, this idea was planted into the minds of four volunteers…3 knitters and 1 crocheter from Dublin and Cork…A planning committee was formed to take Ravelry’s Irish Knitters to the next level.
The First Irish Knitters Retreat 2008 was held 17 to 19 October in Co. Galway. Fourteen members of Ravelry’s Irish Knitters arrived via automobile, bus and train from all over Ireland and converged on Tom & Mairead’s B&B, Craig Country House for a weekend of fiber frolicking, which included knitting & crocheting, a learn to handspin workshop, retail therapy in Galway City and relaxing by the fireside at the B&B.
